The vote for the Video Music Awards (VMA) is upon us. Who will win? It's up to you to see. Visitors to MTV.com have the opportunity to vote once a day. There are some notable names present in the nominees and some notable names missing. The VMA categories are now gender neutral, a change that took place in 2017.
The nominations: Cardi B is in the lead but the Carters come in force
The Cardi B fever continues to heat the VMAs with nominations for categories such as Best New Artist, Artist of the Year. If she wins, she'll have a hellish year, especially since she's just giving birth to her first child. In all, she got 10 nominations for 2018. Not to be outdone, royalty music Beyonce and Jay-Z are also in the ring with 8 nominations like The Carters for "Apeshit". The Carters are nominated for Video of the Year Best Collaboration, Best Hip Hop and More. Ariana Grande may be in the news for something other than her dazzling commitment to comedian Pete Davidson, as she got nominations for Artist of the Year and Best Pop .
Childish Gambino, the alter ego of actor Donald Glover, caused a sensation with "This is America" and he received 7 nominations, making him tied with Drake for 2018. Among them , Video of the Year [19659005] and Video with a Social Message, an award introduced in 2013. Shockingly, Childish Gambino did not receive an appointment for [19659004] Artist of the year . Drake was nominated for "Plan of God" with Video of the Year Artist of the Year Song of the Year, ] Best Hip Hop and others. Camila Cabello is well behaved in the nominations, receiving Artist of the Year Song of the Year Video of the Year Best Pop and Best Choreography .
Who Got Snubbed
Taylor Swift had only one nomination: Best Artistic Direction for "Look what you've done me" Like singer changed her look and her approach to music, it was a shock to her fans who thought she was sure to receive a shipment of nominations. Other shocks are Janelle Monae and Christina Aguilera. Aguilera's ballad with Demi Lovato, "Fall in Line", a feminist anthem was not nominated, not even for Video with a Social Message . Half received a nomination for the song "Sorry Not Sorry" with Best Pop and his collaboration with Luis Fonsi received an appointment.
Independent artists are barely a preview on the airwaves of VMAs, however, a category called Push Artist of the Year recognizes new artists who are not necessarily the cardi B of the industry. Among the identified artists are Sigrid ( who appeared on our SZA Grace Vanderwaal and Hayley Kiyoko.) The Push category includes a longer list of acts than the other categories.
