Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta announced that there would be no increase in value-added tax (VAT) as speculated.
"I would also like to advise our friends [Minority] that we should arrest Mr. Ofori Atta said that VAT would be maintained at 12% and a half percent," said Mr. Ofori Atta during the presentation of the 39 mid-year budget review in Parliament Thursday.

He explained that the measures should ensure that the country achieves its budget deficit target of 4.5 percent and ensure that the country leaves the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program.
There were suggestions before the budget review that the government would add three per cent to the VAT.
