GRIDCo to reduce the losses of electricity

The GridCo Company (Ghana Grid Company) works to reduce the amount of electricity lost through transmission to both wholesale and wholesale users.

GRIDCo currently has a four per cent loss of electricity due to warming transmission cables. if unverified would be counted by the Public Utility Regulation Commission (PURC) as a mark of inefficiency in its operations.

million. Mark Baah, Director of Systems Operations at GRIDCo, revealed this during a meeting with the media. To commemorate his tenth birthday,

M. Baah added that GRIDCo would pay for such inefficiencies if it could not reduce these losses, adding that "PURC would not transfer these losses to consumers".

He explained that losses could not be avoided because whenever electrons (electricity) were circulating in a conductor (cable), they produced heat in the air and counted as a loss of energy. ;electricity.

"You can not prevent the warming of the cables, but you can control it to make sure that it does not go beyond the accepted amount."

GRIDCo, note-t he planned to build more transmission lines because most of the lines were overloaded.

He added that the company also had the option of replacing the transmission cables with heavier cables, adding however that existing towers might not be able to support the load of heavier cables.

that the right of way for GRIDCo should not be encroaching as this could affect the construction of more substations, towers and transmission lines due to lack of space.

million. Baah advised consumers to help reduce power losses by using certified electricians to wire their homes and avoid overloading circuits at home.

He said that apart from the high cost of electricity consumption, the practice could also lead to fires and other risks.

GR IDCo was established on August 1, 2008 to pbad the energy of producers to wholesalers and bulk users and to promote competition after its badignment by the Volta Authority (VRA).
