The Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, boycotted the meeting with members of the Zongo community at the Kumasi Central Mosque at the eleventh hour for security reasons.

Asante-Apeatu ordered his men to leave the place peacefully because of the conduct of the furious youth.

Previous reports have suggested that IGP and his team were driven out by the angry young man who allegedly threw them with stones

Other reports indicated that PGI was on the verge of addressing a crowd of Muslims at the central mosque when the youth threw stones at him to cut his speech

The entourage of the IGP including Minister Zongo, Sadic Abubakar and the Minister of Information, Mustapha Hamid, did not enter the central mosque.

Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah, who heads REGSEC and is part of the IGP convoy, told DAILY GUIDE that no one was pursuing the IGP.

According to him, the IGP, which detected that the voltage was high at this location, asked that the meeting be postponed.

IGP meets Otumfuo

Earlier in the day, IGP and its entourage met Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at a closed meeting at Manhyia Palace, where he informed him of plans to address the concerns of members of the Zongo community

The IGP informed Otumfuo Osei Tutu that he would hold a meeting with the injured people at the mosque central to help ua lasting peace in Zongo communities.

Crunch Meeting

As at the time of filing this report, IGP, Regional Minister Ashanti, other ministers and security officers in the Egion District participated in a crucial meeting at the Council Regional Coordination (RCC) to end the riots in the Zongo community

Seven men, indigenous to Zongo communities in Kumasi, were shot dead by police, who claimed that they were armed thieves.
