From 1 August, all fishing activities in the country will be banned following a directive from the Ministry of Fisheries and of aquaculture.

The directive of the Minister of Fisheries has aroused the fury of some fishermen. in the coastal belt of the Greater Accra region, which says that the ban will not only affect the annual Homowo celebration, but will also increase the cost of fish in the country.

Some fishermen feel insulted by a suggestion from the Minister of Fisheries to collect plastic for the closed fishing season. They say that they are not mentally handicapped men and women to pick up plastic waste.
