The inflation rate for June reaches 10%

The inflation rate for June 2018 rises to 10 percent due to rising prices of non-food items in the country.

This figure represents an increase of 0.2 percent from the 9.8 percent recorded in May, 2018.

According to government statistician, Dr. Baah Wadieh, prices of imported products continue to rise. record a price increase in the last three months.

Food and non-food inflation

The non-alcoholic beverage group recorded an inflation rate of 7.3% year-on-year. This is 0.3 percentage point lower than the rate recorded in May 2018.

The non-food group recorded an annual inflation rate of 11.2% in June 2018, compared to 10.9% in May 2018. Five subgroups recorded annual inflation rates above their average rate of 11.2%.

Clothing and footwear recorded the highest inflation rate of 16.1% followed by Transportation with 15.5%, leisure and culture with 13.8%, furniture, household equipment and routine maintenance with 13.3% and miscellaneous goods and services with 12.7%
The inflation was the lowest in housing, water, subgroups of electricity, gas and Other Fuels (3.4%)

Regional Distribution

Four regions – Brong Ahafo, Upper West, Western and Ashanti recorded higher inflation rates than the national average of 10%.

Recording of the Upper West region the highest inflation rate of 11.9% followed by the Brong Ahafo region with 10.9% while the region of the Upper East has recorded the lowest inflation of 8.1%
