Sending an email to a colleague without realizing that he is on vacation is a disappointment for everyone involved. As soon as you receive this automatic answer "away from the office", you suddenly remember the twenty-minute conversation you had about their next trip to Hawaii and you feel like crazy. In the meantime, they come back to a thousand "Hey, can you help with that? OH NEVERMIND SORRY ENJOY YOUR TRIP! ".

Google tries to make it less frequent often with a feature it will soon deploy for its G Suite users (read: Gmail plans / Docs / Hangouts / Paid Calendar / etc.). If you have registered as absent from the office, your colleagues will warn you before they send you an email.

The header is in the form of a small yellow banner that hovers over just the send button, warning the sender that you are currently out of the office and when you are about to return.

A similar message will appear if they are also trying to send you messages in Hangouts.

All this is related to the office out of office feature that the company introduced in Google Calendar last year, which automatically denies all meeting requests for the window in which you will be gone.

You probably do not want all hikers / spammers trying to send you an email to be informed about your travel plans. Google therefore indicates that the Gmail / Hangouts intent management feature will only work if Gsuite users already have access to your calendar. So that's the information they already had, now they do not have to search anymore.

If for some reason the concept or banner screws in your workflow do not interest you, each user can disable it. To do this, go to the "Permissions" section of your Google Calendar settings and turn off the "Show calendar information in other Google apps." & # 39 ;.

Google says this feature should be available to all G Suite users by September 16th.
