Golfer Phil Mickelson said on Twitter Thursday that he was one of the "thousands" who used the university board company accused of orchestrating a major corruption project at the universities.

Mickelson said his family was shocked by the recent revelations about the consultant, William Singer.

Mickelson's daughter attends Brown University in Providence, R.I.

The university has not responded to a request for comment.

Mickelson pointed out that his family was not involved in any fraud.

The golfer has not been charged or implicated in the corruption scandal.

Federal prosecutors said Singer had run a program where wealthy parents had bought sports coaches and other officials to get their children into elite universities.

More than 50 people were charged, including television actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin.
