Guests at seafood restaurants may have been exposed to hepatitis A

SARASOTA, Florida – An employee of a Sarasota seafood restaurant has tested positive for the hepatitis A virus, county health officials said Friday.

The Duval employee on Main Street may have exposed clients to hepatitis A between April 26 and May 10.

The Florida Department of Health recommends that guests who have been to the restaurant during this time and who have not been vaccinated against hepatitis A be immunized.

Symptoms of hepatitis A include the sudden onset of abdominal discomfort, dark urine, fever, diarrhea, pale white stool as well as yellow skin and eyes. . Anyone with these symptoms should seek medical attention promptly.

Cases of hepatitis A have increased in Sarasota County. According to officials, there have been seven cases this year, compared to two in 2018 and two between 2014 and 2016.
