TR FILE PHOTO The 13th Street District Annual Harvest Market will offer a little something for everyone. Held from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, September 13, the event is free and open to the public.
Organizers are excited to bring a favorite fall event back to the 13th Street district of Marshalltown.
The harvest market will be back on September 10. Over 25 vendors will offer fresh produce, baked goods, crafts and more. In addition, food trucks and a beer and wine tent will be present to quench thirsts and conquer appetites. Live performances by Bon Jecci and the Punching Pandas will fill the air with music. Kids can enjoy a kids corner with a STEM learning activity.
“I’m really excited that we are bringing the event back to 13th Street after take off from 2020 and just have great community representation at the event,” Said Christine Isom, a member of the 13th Street District Board of Directors.
The next Harvest Market will be the fifth interpretation of the event. In 2019, the harvest market attracted around 2,000 people, Isom said.
She said the 13th Street District Board of Directors has made an effort to organize a multi-faceted event for all ages, offering attractions for adults and children.
“Originally, we were looking at how to encourage the community to visit the 13th Street neighborhood with all the revitalization that has taken place in the neighborhood over the past decade, by hosting a key event there that would help attract the community for a truly fun, family-friendly, neighborhood-oriented event “ Isom said. “The harvest market started out very small and humble and it has continued to grow over the years and we have continued to add to the event and are delighted to continue to see this grow every year.”
She said the crop market has mostly stayed true to its roots this year in terms of vendors from Marshalltown and surrounding areas. The Marshalltown Arts and Culture Alliance helped sponsor upcoming artists to the event, providing the market with a balance between produce and art.
“It’s great to see the investment that has been reinvested in 13th Street. “ Isom said. “To be able to organize events that can attract people from our community, young and old, to be able to really take advantage of these investments that are going into the community and showcase some of the different neighborhoods of the city. “
