Harvest Moon in Canada Friday was breathtaking (PHOTOS)

Just in time for the start of the fall season, the night of Friday the 13th was marked by a scary lunar event that only happens once a decade or two years ago. The harvest moon refers to the full moon that rises as close to the beginning of autumn, and it was as massive, brilliant and beautiful as expected!

If the extra-rare moon was not already magical enough, we can often see that the moon of the harvest has an orange-y glow, giving it an autumnal and spooky appearance. According to Global News, the orange hue comes from the rising of the moon so soon after sunset, sometimes as fast as ten minutes later!

In fact, Friday's Harvest Moon was so rare that it was gone for 152 years! According to MétéoMédia, this was probably a unique opportunity to see it, since a similar Harvest Moon should not land on Friday the 13th in 152 years!

Thankfully, if you missed the beautiful single moon last night, Canadians from across the country turned to social media to share their own photos of the Harvest Moon, and some of them are almost as good as reality!

The Weather Network explains that the last time we saw a Harvest Moon in Canada, it was technically in 1935. The Full Moon rose on the night of Thursday, September 12 to Friday morning, September 13.

However, the Harvest Moon observed this weekend saw the Full Moon rise on September 13th and not go to bed until September 14th. This has not been seen since 1867, 152 years ago!

Fortunately, there will probably be another Friday of the 13th Full Moon in our lifetime, as the next month of August 2049! However, if you hope to take another Friday, the 13th Harvest Moon, you will probably wait a while, because The Weather Network has announced that there will not be another one until September 2171! Yuck!

Fortunately, Canadians from across the country were prepared with their cameras to capture that moment, which means we all could have a glimpse of the incredible Harvest Moon, even if we forget to look for it!
