Hawaii health officials today reported one new coronavirus-related death in Oahu and 105 new infections statewide, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 281 deaths and 19,859 cases.
No further information was immediately available on the latest death.
The State Department of Health’s official coronavirus death toll includes 217 deaths on Oahu, 44 on the island of Hawaii, 17 on Maui, one in Kauai and two Hawaii residents who died on the mainland.
The coronavirus death toll in the United States stood at more than 311,000 today, with more than 17 million cases of infection since the start of the pandemic.
Today, new cases of infection statewide reported by the Department of Health include 105 in Oahu, 11 in Maui, seven in Big Island, one in Kauai, and six residents of Hawaii diagnosed outside the ‘State and one in Kauai. As a result of updated information, a case in Oahu and the Big Island has been taken off accounts, state officials said.

Health officials counted 4,720 new COVID-19 test results, for a statewide positivity rate of 2.7%.
The total number of coronavirus cases per island since the start of the epidemic is 16,760 in Oahu, 1,769 in Hawaii County, 746 in Maui, 136 in Kauai, 106 in Lanai and 22 in Molokai. There are also 320 Hawaii residents diagnosed out of state.
Health officials in Hawaii said of the state’s total number of infections, 1,489 cases were considered active. Health officials say they regard infections reported in the past 14 days as a “surrogate number for active cases.” The number of active cases in the state has increased by 21 today.
Per island, Oahu has 1,153 active cases, Maui has 169, Big Island has 147, Kauai has 16, and Molokai has four, according to the latest tally.
Of all confirmed cases of infection in Hawaii, 1,394 required hospitalizations, with seven new hospitalizations – six in Oahu and one on the island of Hawaii – reported today by state health officials.
Three statewide hospitalizations are residents of Hawaii who were diagnosed and treated out of state. Of the 1,391 hospitalizations in the state, 1,120 were in Oahu, 84 on the Big Island, 69 in Maui, seven in Kauai, five in Lanai and one in Molokai.
According to the latest information from the Hawaii COVID-19 Department’s data dashboard, a total of 53 patients with the virus were in hospitals in Hawaii as of noon Thursday, including 14 in intensive care units and seven on ventilators.
Oahu moved to the less restrictive Level 2 of Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell’s four-level economic stimulus package on October 22. two key COVID-19 numbers every Wednesday. To move to level 3 from level 2, the 7-day average of new cases must be less than 50 on two consecutive Wednesdays.
