The number of COVID-19 patients in Alabama hospitals has fallen by nearly two-thirds since reaching near-record levels in late August and early September.
State health worker Dr Scott Harris will speak about hospitalizations and other issues and answer questions in his weekly update starting at 11 a.m. today.
Alabama hospitals reported 1,040 COVID-19 patients as of Thursday, up from 2,890 on September 1, a 64% drop. The highest number to date during the 19-month pandemic – 3,084 – came in January.
As of Thursday, 28% of patients in intensive care unit beds in Alabama hospitals were there for COVID-19. The state had 1,544 staffed intensive care beds and 1,409 intensive care patients.
Among adult patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Alabama hospitals, 79% were unvaccinated, 3% were partially vaccinated and 18% were fully vaccinated, according to the Alabama Hospital Association.
