Testing is intensifying statewide as the holiday season begins and coronavirus cases continue to climb in New Jersey, although long lines have been reported.

People waited several days for appointments at pharmacies such as CVS and RiteAid. New Jersey averaged more than 44,000 administered tests per day over the past week. This total does not include recently deployed rapid tests.

The statewide positivity rate for tests recorded on Thursday, the most recent day available, was 11.94%. There were 31,406 tests administered that day, according to the state’s COVID-19 dashboard.

There were 3,287 patients in 71 hospitals across the state as of 10 p.m. Tuesday with the coronavirus or a suspected case, an increase from 3,108 in the previous 24-hour period.

The seven-day average for new cases is now 4,053, down 1% from a week ago, but an increase of 152% from a month ago. Governor Phil Murphy on Tuesday reported 4,661 more coronavirus cases and 90 more deaths.

New Jersey has now reported 341,910 cases out of 6.1 million tests since the outbreak began on March 4.
