A giant fireball has been spotted flashing across the sky and crashing into a county in southern China.

Images taken by stunned residents show an unidentified object exploding in a flaming sphere as it plunges at rapid speed toward the earth.

It is not immediately clear what the fireball is, but local media suggest the possibility of a very bright meteor. No casualties were reported.
