“It’s a lot freer and less structured than high school, I would say. I feel like I do a lot of things according to my time and my desires, rather than having to stick to a strict daily schedule.
“I went to Hampden, The Charmery was good. I had vanilla, but added Oreos and chocolate syrup to it because they didn’t have cookies and cream. I think next time I will try one of their unique flavors. The campus itself is very similar to suburban life, but once you start traveling to Baltimore it is very busy. I haven’t really been much; I have to find a bigger group. Once I find some people to do this with, I think it will be really fun to explore.
“I know for some people it’s more difficult. For me in particular, I feel like we are training pretty well. I’m taking Chem, Calc II, Foundations of Brain Behavior and Cognition, Introduction to Bioethics. I also have a Hopkins Engineering & Research Tutorials [HEART] class, which is like an engineering thing. This one is specifically about the technical rehabilitation of neurological disorders, like Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, things like that. So far we’ve just been lecturing, but starting next week we’re starting a project. Depending on what you choose, you can go to medical school to do a hands-on project, or you can do one thing online. Of course, I opted for medical school.
“The people are really nice here. It’s easy to talk to people and get to know others. I don’t feel like anyone is very cliquey or won’t refuse you to talk to them; everyone is really open. It’s a great community here. I was afraid to go to college and not have friends, but I think everyone is in the same situation, so it makes getting to know people easier.
“There was a problem with the registration in the clubs. The system just didn’t work and I didn’t really get a good overview of all the clubs. I thought I could come back and see them again, but they weren’t really available. I would make it more accessible. I was thinking of joining an art club. I have found something that involves art; it’s called Believing in Art. I think the general idea is that students use art as a way to help others, whether it’s in a hospital, nursing home, or a group of people. The idea is to get people involved.
