Portrait of Karen Heisler

The Department of Film, Television and Theater at Notre Dame University mourns the death of its friend and colleague, professional specialist Karen Heisler. Heisler died on Sunday (September 19).

Loved by generations of students, Heisler has been a cherished member of the FTT family for over 25 years. Heisler’s sports and television course was legendary, as was his relentless emphasis on proper grammar and proofreading. As the department’s internship coordinator, she has supported countless students in their first experiences in the professional world. When she retired in 2019, FTT rebranded the Television Studies Award, awarded to a senior graduate for her outstanding work in television studies, the FTT Karen Croake Heisler Television Studies Award.

There will be a local tour from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday (September 27) at Saint Pius X Granger Church, as well as a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. on Tuesday (September 28), with tours starting at 10 a.m.
