Mulholland, a 30-year-old New Zealand doctor, said 200,000 New Zealanders had type 2 diabetes and more than 100,000 did not know it.
"According to our estimates, more than 3,000 people randomly tested in supermarkets, stables and remote islands in New Zealand estimate that 200,000 have type 2 diabetes and do not know it," Mulholland said.
He said that the best way to discover a person with diabetes or the quality of control is to test HBA1C. It measures how much red blood cells have been sticky in the last three months. Below 40 mmol / mol of green light is lit, 40 to 50 mmol / mole of orange light is lit for prediabetes and more than 50 mmol / mol may be diabetes.
