The US Food and Drug Administration alerts health professionals and patients to the recall of several drugs that contain the valsartan ingredient.
Valsartan is used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure, according to the FDA. There was an impurity found in valsartan called N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA).
NDMA is clbadified as probable carcinogen for humans based on laboratory tests.
The FDA believes that this sudden presence of NDMA is due to the substance.
After hearing about the recall, Denise Meade was shocked. The main reason she was worried, is that she is currently suffering from kidney cancer and that she has been taking this type of medication for 15 years. In addition, the FDA has said that there is a link between valsartan and cancer
"It seemed terribly strange that I had kidney cancer, but I wonder "There is a link," said Meade. This is the list of drugs recalled by the FDA.

The drug containing valsartan that Denise Meade currently has not been on this list but she is still concerned, she may have taken one of the recalled brands in the past.
"I'm scared because you never know if that caused another cancer to appear," she said.
Meade said that now she feels confused, upset and angry.
"I am angry at drug companies who have not made more efforts to prevent this from happening," she said. She says that all she can do is wait and see if she has taken any of the recalled medications in the past.
Here is the FDA's response:
"We have carefully evaluated drugs containing valsartan sold in the United States, and we have found that the valsartan sold by these specific companies does not meet our safety standards. That's why we've asked these companies to take immediate action to protect patients, "said Janet Woodbad, MD, director of the FDA's Center for Evaluation and Drug Research
In the event of a medical condition, patients taking the recalled medication should continue to take it until they replace it.
