A man was rushed to hospital with "head injuries" as a result of a road accident in County Clare.
The man, about 60 years old, was trapped in his car for a short time until the emergency services arrived and cut him off from the wreckage, sources said. .
Firefighters attached to the Limerick County Fire Department cut off the roof of the man's car to extract it from his vehicle.
The collision between two cars occurred at Barry's Cross, Ardnacrusha, County Clare, near the Limerick border, around 7 am this morning.
Munster Fire Control received a 999 call at 7:15 am and deployed three units from the Limerick County and County Fire Department, including its Bravo aircraft with onboard cutting equipment. Local guards and paramedics also attended the scene.
The man was transferred by ambulance to Limerick University Hospital. His condition is unknown.
A source said: "It was a collision of two cars and the roof of a car was removed to clear the driver. He is a man in his 60s who has head injuries.
"The driver of the other car was not injured," they added.
Gardaí closed the R463, between Ardnacrusha and Corbally, in both directions after the collision.
The road has since reopened.

AA Roadwatch had previously tweeted: "At Ardnacrusha, Corbally Road (R463) is closed in both directions at Barry's Shop, with emergency services facing an accident."
Later, a Garda source said: "The road has reopened. A man aged 60 to 70 was brought to the UHL. "
