A heroic woman who helped a garda who was injured in a fatal collision in Monaghan County on Tuesday night made contact with him.

Following a call made earlier in the day on the Castleblayney Incident, Gardai confirmed that one person had come forward and had renewed his call for witnesses.

The brave woman in question helped Garda Michael Devlin after he had tried to prevent a thug from fleeing the scene.

Dressed in black and wearing a black hat, the woman trailed the injured Garda Devlin in a silver Audi as the smoke came out of her hood.

Superintendent Fergus Treanor stated that the officers were trying to talk to the woman, who was the first on the scene.

Superintendent Treanor stated that the woman acted with courage.

He said, "What I can see in the pictures, is that she acted with courage because she thought the car was on fire.

"There was certainly a lot of smoke coming out of it.

"Her efforts to help Garda Devlin are of great concern to me right now.

"She's obviously involved in the danger and we can not wait to talk to her.
