An exceptionally strong year for women's writing was celebrated this year at the An Post Irish Book Awards, with female authors dominating the list of winners for the first time.
Sally Rooney, Emilie Pine, Emer McLysaght & Sarah Breen and Liz Nugent were some of the award-winning authors nominated at the Irish Book Awards ceremony in Dublin, along with Rooney's ### Normal people a popular winner of the Eason Book Club's yearlong novel, and Pine named the Independent Independent of the Year at the Sunday Independent for her acclaimed memoirs Notes to oneself.

Somewhere else, The importance of being Aisling by Emer McLysaght and Sarah Breen win the gong of the popular fiction book of the year Specsavers, while the double winner, Liz Nugent, wins the Irish Yearbook award for "Independent Crime" and the prize "Listen Tu" Choice Award "awarded by RTÉ Radio 1, Superficial.
The awards ceremony celebrated by RTÉ Six One Co-Host, Keelin Shanley, took place at the Clayton Hotel, on Burlington Road, in Dublin, and brought together an audience of writers, publishers, booksellers and media personalities. to celebrate an exceptional year for the Irish edition.

Lynn Ruane (The book of the year non-fiction People like us), John Connell (Ireland AM's Popular Fiction Book of the Year, for The cow's book), Cora Staunton (Bord Gáis Energy Sports Book of the Year, for Game Changer) and Peter Donnolly (Book of the Year – Children's Book, National Tokens), for The chat of the president), The renowned poet, Thomas Kinsella, has been named recipient of the Bob Hughes Award of Excellence for all of his work and a special award was given to the family of author Emma Hannigan, deceased earlier this year.
The best moments of the Irish Post Awards will be broadcast on RTÉ One at 22h15 this Thursday 29 November.
