Chris Hughton think Sol Campbell is "absolutely" ready for his entry into management.
Former England defenseman Campbell took charge at Macclesfield this week, in a move cheered by former Tottenham teammate and Newcastle manager Hughton.
Brighton's current director, Hughton, has long advocated for more black and ethnic minority (BAME) coaches in football, and praised Campbell's nomination as another positive step.
"I've been talking to Sol for a while, I know him well," said former Republic of Ireland advocate, Hughton.
"We spent many years together in Tottenham and I welcomed him as a player in Newcastle and he informed everyone about the road he wanted to take.
"It took longer than he would have liked, but I do not think you could talk that way, want what he wanted, and not be ready for it.
"So, absolutely, I'm sure Sol is ready for this job.
"As a campaigner who has witnessed developments, with FA initiatives and the work that others are trying to do, I am delighted to see another black manager embarking on a very challenging job. .
"But it's more about the person who takes on this role, I'm really happy for Sol.
"It's hard work, it's not a job in which you step in and where everything is in place, and it will be challenging.
"So, you can not accuse Sol of not taking a more difficult route.
"So thanks to him and Macclesfield, and I really hope he'll succeed."
Brighton will face Huddersfield on Saturday, in anticipation of a first win in four games.
Seagull boss Hughton praised the beautiful form of the evergreen striker Glenn Murray, who scored seven goals in the 35-year-old sack in 13 Premier League games.
Invited to summarize the impact of Murray despite his years of advancement, Hughton replied: "It is unusual, unusual for a man the same age as Glenn, to be as fit as him and, of course, to score goals at the highest level.
"He is eager to keep playing and at the best possible level, while scoring goals.
"But it's one thing that says that and one that does it, so we're very grateful that he does it.
"It will always inspire, just because it does, but probably more because of the sacrifices it has to make to do it."

"And Glenn is not just someone who scores goals, he has to work for the team."
