Ireland's largest amusement park, Tayto Park, is due to present a planning application for its biggest attraction so far, an 'iconic' roller coaster ride of 14 million euros in the coming days.

Tayto Park owner Ray Coyle said today that the new roller coaster will be the same height as Cú Chulainn, 32 meters high, but 400 meters longer than Cú Chulainn, along 1,082 meters.

Mr Coyle said the new roller coaster will "see the future of Tayto Park locked on copper".

He said: "The new roller coaster will be two roller coasters in one. This will ensure the future of the park. If you do not create a benchmark every three or four years, your numbers will start to go down and that's the way to closing. "

Coyle said plans for the roller coaster would be presented to Meath County Council next week.

Mr Coyle said the goal was to secure planning in 2019, build the Russian mountain in 2020 and open it to the public in 2021.

He confirmed that the roller coaster would cost 14 million euros and can accommodate 1,200 pbadengers per hour compared to Cú Chulainn, which carries 1,000 pbadengers per hour.

Mr. Coyle then commented that Tayto Park's new accounts show that its pre-tax profits rose 8% to 3.65 million euros.

This increase follows a 5% increase in turnover to reach € 17,533 million – an average of € 92,770 per day of revenue for each of the 189 days that Tayto Park opened last year.

Mr. Coyle confirmed that 720,000 visitors came to Tayto Park last year and that this year the numbers will increase by about 3 to 4%, despite a drop in the number of visitors for the month of July because of the heat wave.

Mr. Coyle stated that Tayto Park 's earnings before taxes (EBITDA) amounted to 7 million euros for the prior year.

Mr. Coyle said he was "delighted" with Tayto Park's performance in 2017 and 2018.

Mr. Coyle opened Tayto Park "in a field at Co Meath" in October 2010. He said, "Nobody has been coming for six months. I thought we had to close it, but at Easter 2011, people started coming. You learn as you go. "

Mr. Coyle said the crowds traveling to Tayto Park in 2018 would be the largest to date. He said: "Word of mouth is the way most people go to Tayto Park – that's about 60% of the time."

He said that the most popular attraction is the all-wooden roller coaster Cú Chulainn that opened in 2015.

He added that 40% of visitors went to the Tayto Park Zoo and 35% were touring the Tayto factory.

Mr. Coyle also said that Tayto Park received a very important business from Northern Ireland, representing 24 to 25 percent of all customers.

Mr. Coyle said the park is adding more and more to its attractions each year.

The park has also been a powerful employer in the region. The accounts for 2017 show that the number of people employed last year rose to 296 with staff costs of 4.4 million euros.

Last year, after-tax profits of Tayto Park amounted to 3.1 million euros after a corporate tax of 549,402 euros.

The badets of the company had a book value of 33.48 million euros at the end of last year.
