A Paris-Miami flight was forced to turn away from Shannon Airport after stopping one of the aircraft's engines.

American Airlines flight AA63 took off from Charles de Gualle airport shortly after 11 am this morning for a 10-hour trip to Florida.

However, approximately two hours after take-off, the Boeing 777 would have lost the power of its starboard engine and a general emergency was declared on board.

The plane was forced to turn back over the Atlantic Ocean and head to Ireland.

The incident comes after Shannon Airport received two diversions in a single day earlier this week.

On Tuesday, a British Airways plane connecting Washington Dulles to London Heathrow was forced to land urgently at the Irish airport due to a "medical situation" involving a female pbadenger.

Flight BA292 landed at Shannon at 10:05 am local time and the woman was transported to Limerick Hospital.

A few minutes later, at 10:19, a WOW Air flight from Reykjavik, Iceland, was diverted to the airport after heavy winds prevented a safe landing at Dublin Airport.

The WW6 flight refuels Shannon before returning to Dublin at 11:54.
