Gardai is investigating the theft of two ATMs with an excavator at Co Meath during the night in the 16th incident of this type since the beginning of the year.
Both ATMs were ripped off from a bank in Kells in the early morning hours with a backhoe.
The machine, as well as a tractor and a trailer, remain on the premises of St. John, the road being currently closed by Gardai.
The targeted banks, AIB and Bank of Ireland, are not far apart.
Visible damage could be observed outside the Bank of Ireland building, with a signal light broken on the ground and debris from the damage caused during the flight.
Similar damage was also caused to AIB Bank, located about 10 meters from the other bank.
A large amount of CCTV covers the street and Gardai in Kells makes a call to anyone who might have witnessed the flights to contact him.
This is the 16th time that a gang of criminals target items on both sides of the border, similar flights having occurred in Cavan and Monaghan earlier this year.
