And some of us like to add a little sugar too.

Now, a study has found that putting sugar in your cup is actually useless.

Researchers from the University of Leeds and University College London observed 64 men who had always taken sugar in their tea during a month-long experience.

Some men have given up sugar in their tea & # 39; Cold Turkey & # 39; and a part of it gradually abandoned by reducing it during the month.

There was also an observed control group, which continued to drink sugar in their tea as usual.

After a month, it was found that 46% of the people in the group who had given up sugar had ended up staying completely out of it.

People in the cold turkey group were slightly less successful, with 36% successfully dropping sugar.

Interestingly, 6% of control group members also gave up sugar after the experiment, although they did not have to go through it.

The researcher said:

"Excessive consumption of sugar is a public health problem and the sugar content of beverages contributes substantially to total consumption, so reducing the sugar consumption of beverages could help reduce overall consumption"

They concluded the need for a new study with a larger sample.

Maybe it's time to give up the sugar and savor the tea.
