A 59-year-old woman died of asphyxiation after her nightgown got entangled in a bed in her bedroom.

The mother of two had recently bought a new bed with decorative glbad studs, opened an investigation into her death.

Deirdre Fox (59) from Sandyford, Dublin 18 died at home on April 13, 2017. She had type 2 diabetes and was injecting insulin daily, the Dublin court announced. She spoke with her ex-husband Ronald Doyle the night before his death and was "in good shape".

Family members voiced their concerns the next day after failing to contact the woman on her mobile phone. Mr. Doyle went home and found her in her room shortly after 1 pm.

"She had bought a new bed and there were four glbad buttons at the end. She was wearing a nightgown that had got entangled in one of the glbad buttons, "Mr. Doyle told the court.

The investigation found that the nightgown was stuck around the woman's neck and limited her ability to breathe.

Gardaí was called and examined the scene but found nothing suspicious.

"It is thought that she would be smoking a cigarette at the window of her room and she got stuck in bed around her right shoulder while she was coming back from the window," Garda Trevor said. 'Arcy in court.

The post-mortem examination by medical examiner Susan Aherne revealed a mark on the right side of the woman's neck. The cause of death was positional asphyxia related to elevated blood alcohol levels.

"She had several drinks. She would have been unstable, "said Dr. Myra Cullinane, coroner.

"It's just the most unusual and unfortunate thing that has happened to him. She was intoxicated to the point of not being able to get out of this situation, "said the coroner.

"Unfortunately, she fell in love with this position and in the position she was in, she had trouble breathing. When her oxygen level dropped, she died. That's why the pathologist calls it positional asphyxia, "said the coroner.

In rendering a verdict of misfortune, Dr. Cullinane presented his condolences to the family. "It must have been a terrible shock to find her and for you to lose her so suddenly that way."
