The Irish Premiership star, Jay Donnelly, was sentenced for one of two charges relating to the indecent image of a teenager.

The 23-year-old Cliftonville striker is likely to be sentenced in January after pleading guilty to distributing an indecent image last Friday.

Another charge of having created or taken an indecent image was withdrawn and the two counts counted concerned the period from June to October 2016.

It is unclear how his belief will affect his club career at Solitude, as the North Belfast club plays it as usual since the announcement of the news, that he was facing charges.

Donnelly is considered one of the brightest talents in local football and plays alongside his older brother, Rory.

The pair made headlines last April by comforting a man in distress on a M2 roundabout after a league match.

The Donnelly brothers were congratulated after stepping out of the car to listen to the individual in distress, who would have been in a state of restlessness, until the police arrived to take control of the situation.

Rory Donnelly left Cliftonville to settle in Swansea in 2012 for an allowance approaching a quarter of a million pounds. He returned to Solitude last year after stays at Tranmere Rovers and Gillingham.

Cliftonville is currently fifth in the Premiership Danske Bank after winning the title in 2013 and 2014.
