A man has been indicted in connection with an alleged campaign of online harbadment against women conducted for seven years.

The 36-year-old player appeared in Dublin District Court today.

The information provided by the gardai did not specify the number of women affected, although it was noted that it was more than one woman.

A number of harbadment charges were laid after what Mr. Gardai described as an "intensive investigation" of 18 months.

The operation was conducted by the cyber-investigations unit of the Garda National Bureau of Cybercrime.

During the course of the investigation, the accused allegedly persisted in communicating with the victims by "electronic means".

The accused has been charged with several counts of harbadment at the Kevin Street Garda Station in Dublin.

He was then brought before a Dublin District Court where he was remanded for eight weeks to allow for the production of a collection of evidence.

As a result of "extensive investigations" conducted by the investigation team, the accused was identified and a search and stop operation was initiated.

On May 23 of this year, the man was questioned about the alleged offenses, but he was later released without charge pending the submission of a file to the DPP.
