A man in his forties was killed and a Garda was injured after an accident involving two cars in Monaghan last night.
That happened on the main street of Castleblaney around 11:30.
Shortly before the accident, a Garda had tried to stop a Silver Audi in town. The man left and the Garda was dragged by the car for about 500 meters before it crashed onto a Skoda.
The driver of the Skoda, a man in his forties, was declared dead on the scene. The driver of the Audi, a man in his forties, was arrested.
The Garda, a man in his twenties, is being treated for injuries at the Notre Dame de Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
