A man was killed and a Garda was seriously injured as a result of a serious incident in Monaghan County.
The incident occurred at around 11:30 pm last night in Castleblaney, and it looks like it started when a man left the local Garda station to try to get into a silver Audi A6.
It is understood that a guard attempted to arrest the man, but the driver took the road and dragged him about 500 meters along the road before hitting another car parked in the main street from Castlelaney.
A man sitting in the parked Skoda car was declared dead at the scene as a result of the collision.
This 40-year-old man was sitting in the driver's seat of the parked car.
The Garda, in his twenties, was injured in the face, head and legs.
He is currently being treated at Notre Dame de Lourdes hospital in Drogheda.
The driver of the Audi A6 was arrested at the scene and is currently at the Carrickmacross Garda station.
Castleblayney's main street was closed for examination by forensic officers.
Local deviations are in place.
All witnesses are asked to contact the Carrickmacross Garda station at 042 9690190.
