A national network of charging points for electric cars capable of facilitating the adoption of large-scale electric vehicles over the next decade is one of the first projects announced under the Action Fund. for the climate.
The project is one of seven countries to receive 77 million euros in the first allocation of the 500 million euros fund that is part of the Ireland 2040 project.
The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said the projects could make a real difference in the field of action against climate change and that they would "get going".
20 million euros are invested in a district heating system under the Dublin City Council, which will capture the heat generated by the industrial facilities and bring it into the homes and businesses of Poolbeg, Ringsend and Docklands.
Southern Dublin County will also benefit from a 4.5 million euro program to provide sustainable heating solutions in the Tallaght region.
Minister responsible for climate action Richard Bruton said the seven projects would facilitate a carbon reduction of 200,000 tonnes per year.
Mr Bruton acknowledged that most sectors are "far from the goal" in terms of action for climate change and that there should be a "mbadive advance".
Other projects include the development of 15 million euros of a new hybrid power pack for the interurban wagons of the Irish Railways and an efficiency project for the railways. public lighting of 17.5 million euros
Gas Networks Ireland has stated that an investment of 8.5 million euros in a renewable gas project in Michelstown, County Cork, could power up to 56,000 homes.
The ESB eCar project to develop the new car charging network, which is expected to allow very powerful loaders to provide an additional 100 km in six minutes, will benefit from 10 million euros.
"This really means that we would be able to largely eliminate anxiety," said Marguerite Sayers, general manager of client solutions at ESB.
