X Factor star Anthony Russell broke his silence after shocking fans in the face of a notorious prisoner.

The singer, who will face Dalton Harris and Scarlett Lee in the live final this weekend, sparked controversy when he was caught chatting with incarcerated Michael Trevillion, who was using a mobile phone brought in. jail.

Anthony, 28, was in ITV Studios when he spoke to the man, referred to as "Most Wanted by Merseydie" on FaceTime.

A spokesman for the prison service said: "Anyone who behaves in this way can expect to spend much more time behind bars.
