Galway singer Brendan Murray was eliminated from The X Factor in the semifinal of the show on Saturday.

The 21-year-old star, who represented Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest last year, failed to impress viewers and received the least votes. Singer Danny Tetley has also left the competition.

The Irish diver, who was mentored by Louis Tomlinson of One Direction, thanked fans and viewers for their support and said his journey with X Factor was an experience he will never forget.

"This has been the best experience of my life, I want to thank everyone who has voted for me every week, thank you Louis for taking me away."

Tomlinson praised Murray's "A-plus performance" and said he was "so proud" of him.

They had a good time, but the #XFactor trip is now over for @ brendan_m96 and @danny_tetley ?? You've been awesome, see you on the Tour! ❌ pic.twitter.com/NP9Xuws9ff

Murray had made a stripped-down rendition of Run Snow Patrol, while Tetley faced Shirley Bbadey It's my life, as well as taking part in a group performance of Abba clbadics.

After his performance, Murray consulted social media to urge people to vote and said "satisfied with this reaction".

Very happy with this reaction. ?
The vote is open soon.
Stay tuned.
Thank you X
