"I am being slaughtered to train the boys five times a week."
Damien Duff has a theory about why Irish football does not produce talented players like it did before.
According to former Chelsea winger, young Irish players do not spend enough time playing football or being coached.
Duff is currently coaching Shamrock Rovers' under-15 team. He told RTE Tuesday night that he had been criticized for insisting that his team train five times a week.
"The haste for the players to" run away "in England has hurt Irish football and it is now foolish to continue to consider it as the main goal, because the English clubs reject the Irish talent" – @ RobRedmond10 https://t.co/Cyc7WlCeYH

Duff thinks that young Irish players should train more and we can not expect the country to produce professional footballers doing two training sessions a week. He also said that the miners' seasons in Ireland were too short.
"My problem is, the kids – and I think the kids themselves can also badume their responsibilities and the coaches of their clubs – the kids are not getting enough on the ball," said Duff about the cover of the draw. between Manchester United and Manchester United. .
"They can train more at their clubs, I'm being slaughtered to train boys five times a week, it's the dinosaur mentality, you have to train five times a week." Going to play at Chelsea during the season, they train seven times a week.
"But most (Irish) teams train twice, maybe three times a week, so it's already a problem – are we playing enough games? Absolutely not."
Duff added that his under-15 team played about six months a year. He said that was not enough and that they had to play for 11 months of the year.
Didi Hamann confirmed Duff's point of view and said that in southern Germany, from where he comes, they play 11 months a year at a level below the minimum age and have indoor facilities to cope with bad weather conditions in winter.
