Facebook paid € 38.3 million in income tax of € 251.8 million here

New accounts published by Facebook Ireland show that the social network paid 38.3 million euros of tax here last year on a profit of 251.8 million euros.

The effective tax rate for the company for the period is therefore 15.5%.

Facebook has its international headquarters in Dublin, a data center in Clonee and a virtual reality lab in Cork.

By the end of this year, the company will employ more than 4,000 people, directly and indirectly, in all its operations.

The amount of tax paid by the company last year increased by 29% compared to the 30.4 million euros paid the previous year.

The turnover for 2017 has increased by 6.1 billion euros to reach 18.7 billion euros, show accounts.

However, considering the cost of the sold products, the administrative expenses and the interests, the company registered a profit of 251,8 million euros.

This represents a 44% increase over the 2016 figure of 174.3 million euros.

According to figures in the accounts, the average salary of Facebook employees here last year was € 95,766.

Facebook recently announced that it has acquired a lease for the development of the 14-acre Bankcentre in Ballsbridge, currently occupied by AIB, and plans to move its downtown staff to campus.

The new campus will have 870,000 square feet of space on several buildings and will accommodate 5,000 additional people.

It also plans to expand the Clonee data center, which began serving traffic this year.
