OF THE MONKS, Iowa (KCCI) –

A 5 year old boy from central Iowa had a lot of sperm, personality and guts.

His favorite colors were blue, red, black and green. His favorite superheroes were Batman, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk and Cyborg.

He was called Garrett Michael Boofias, or the Great Garrett Underpants, and he enjoyed playing with his sister, his blue rabbit, "thrash metal", Legos, his friends at daycare.

But he also hated pants, the monkey nose "which smells cherry farts", the needles.

Oh, and "dirty stupid cancer".

Garrett Matthias, of Van Meter, knew that he was going to die because of the "dirty dirty cancer".

So he wrote his own obituary – full of ambitious remarks but also honest realities of life and death.

Garrett died on July 6 after suffering from a rare form of pediatric cancer, rhabdomyosarcoma, which is a malignant tumor of the temporal bones of the head and back. # 39; s ear.

Her parents, Emilie and Ryan Matthias, learned that her tumor was resistant to treatment and that her radiation cycles would end because "they can not do anything for him."

They said that Garrett never lost his sense of humor and loved to tease doctors and nurses in the hospital. He was a brain of pranks, from whoopy cushions to stealthy clothes pegs on clothes to "hazing" trainees and to new staff doctors.

Garrett succeeded in fulfilling his dream of becoming a professional boxer when he visited the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital.

"We started a bucket list, and one of the things he wanted to do was become a boxer when he grew up," said Garrett's mother, Emilie Matthias, then that tears filled his eyes.

Those who knew Garrett say that he taught everyone how to get up, fight and enjoy each and every day.

His obituary now receives national attention. Perhaps because he's asked for five inflatable homes (because he's 5 years old), Batman and snow cones celebrate life rather than funerals because "burials are sad."

Maybe because he wanted to cremated "like when Thor's mom died." He wanted to be turned into a tree "so that I could live there when I'm a gorilla."

Perhaps because he said that he was going to be a gorilla when he died. "Throw poop to dad!"

Or maybe it's because a little boy, who had so much positivity and heart, left such a profound impact on the world in so little time.

"With every pbading hour, there are small windows of opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those in need," wrote a Facebook message from the Iowa League of Heroes. "Garrett made a difference in the life of this capped crusader, now rest my friend, you fought well."

He leaves to mourn his mother, his father, his brothers and sisters and "Stinky Uncle Andy "

His parents will honor Garrett's last vows by celebrating life from 5 pm to 11 pm Saturday at their home at 2377 132nd Court in Van Meter. (Note: Solemn ceremony of Asgardian burial and fires (19659026) A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family To make a donation, click here .
