We all hate our pet when it comes to finding this elusive parking spot.
Especially at this time of year when everyone seems to be shopping for Christmas.
A survey listed the five most annoying driving habits of drivers.
Research by Ireland's only electronic registration and toll label provider, easytrip, found that parking stress affects one in three drivers.
- Here are the top five:
- Occupation of two parking spaces – 86%
- Drivers park too close to your car – 71%
- Drivers park in a parking space reserved for disabled people (when they are not disabled) – 70%
- Drivers parked in a family car (when they have no children in the car) – 38%
- Blocking the driveway while waiting for a parking spot – 26%
As far as street parking is concerned, the level of stress can increase further because it is much more difficult to find a parking space in the street than in a car park.
Not surprisingly, many motorists have admitted to parking in places they should not have when looking for street parking.
- The first five are:
- Parking on the trail blocking pedestrian access – 38%
- Parking at a loading dock during restricted hours – 31%
- Parking on a double yellow line – 30%
- Parking on a single yellow line during restricted hours – 29%
- Parking at a bus stop – 11%
Colin Delaney, CEO of easytrip, said: "Our research reveals many of the parking habits of our countries as we enter the Christmas shopping period. While parking technology has made parking easier for many motorists, it is also important to note that we must remain patient and courteous to other drivers when parking our vehicles.
"We advise motorists to be vigilant, not to take two parking spaces and to ensure that they give enough space to the cars parked on each side.
"To avoid parking in a space that is not intended for use and parking on the street, you must be aware of the law and, especially, other road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, bus drivers and vans. "
