The funeral of Emiliano Sala, who died in a plane crash over the English Channel, is expected to take place in Argentina later.

The footballer's relatives cried when his body arrived in Buenos Aires on Friday before being taken to his home province, Santa Fe.

The 28-year-old striker died last month, just two days after making a £ 15 million transfer from French club Nantes to Cardiff City.

His funeral will be held in his hometown of Progreso from 10am UK time (7am local time). Cardiff manager Neil Warnock and general manager Ken Choo are expected to attend.

Sky News sports correspondent Martha Kelner, who is in Progreso, said Sala's body would be cremated in Santa Fe according to her family's wishes.

On January 21, the Argentine striker was traveling to Cardiff in a private plane with pilot David Ibbotson when he crashed into the Channel near Alderney.

Sala's body was recovered from the wreck on February 7 but Mr. Ibbotson is still missing. funds are collected to continue research for 59 years of Lincolnshire.

A post-mortem examination confirmed that Sala had died as a result of "head and trunk injuries", Dorset Coroner's Court heard.

Nantes, for whom Sala scored 42 goals in 120 league games, will be represented at his funeral by defender Nicolas Pallois and Secretary General Loic Morin.
