Horan will meet GPA but does not expect a turnaround

GAA President John Horan said he would meet with the Gaelic Players Association (GPA) to discuss their concerns about the experimental rules that will be tested next year.

The changes will come into force for pre-season competitions and the 2019 Allianz Football League after the GAA Central Council has sanctioned new rules regarding the restricted use of the pbad, the side kick, at the introduction of the brand.

However, the GPA has described as "unacceptable" the sanction of so many dramatic changes for a national competition between counties, in the midst of a wave of opposition from the players.

Chief Executive Paul Flynn wrote to GAA Monday morning to request a meeting. Horan revealed today that if he is happy to meet the players' body, he is not considering any changes to the proposals.

"They asked for a meeting and I agreed to meet them, I'm going to Philadelphia on Thursday, but we agreed to sit down and talk," Horan said.

Horan reiterated his belief that there will be no further modifications despite the reluctance of the GPA.

"The Central Council has made a decision, we are not an instinctive organization where the Central Council will turn around and immediately change the decisions it has adopted."
