Ireland is hard to love for the moment

The only way for the crowds to gather again at the Aviva stadium for the home matches of the Republic of Ireland is if the results and performances start to improve.

That's what expert badysts Liam Brady and Damien Duff say when speaking exclusively at RTÉ Soccer Social on Facebook.

The number of spectators at Ireland's home games has fallen in recent seasons, the style of play played by the recently dismissed manager, Martin O'Neill, failed to excite the fans.

Even worse, the results were poor and the objectives were not precise. The mere fact of changing the director will not result in an instantaneous improvement in the number of spectators.

The new boss, Mick McCarthy, and his badistant, Robbie Keane, will take over Ireland in 2019 and until the end of Euro 2020, they had to go that far, to be replaced by Stephen Kenny.

But Duff and Brady warn that it will take more than a change of direction to get fans to buy tickets.

"I attended the match against Denmark, I took my son in the hope of falling in love with football, but you could feel the sharpness of the ground," said Duff.

"It was an effort for the fans, as I remember Lansdowne Road, the Aviva stadium, there were special moments and evenings, there was a huge disconnect and the only way to reconnect was with results.

"It's great to bring Mick and Robbie, good idea, but it's on the field now, we've talked a lot about Mick and Roy, but there's a lot of responsibility for the players, who were also disappointed.

Brady added: "There was a big gap between the Irish team, the FAI and the fans and we saw it in the spectators.

"John Delaney, in one of the reasons why Martin O'Neill and his team lost their job, was that attendance was meager.I am not sure that the plan will get presences that will fulfill the mandate of Aviva. " right now.

"It's all about results and performance, remember when Jack Charlton took over the Eoin Hand team, there was a disconnect and Jack had to work for almost two years before filling Lansdowne Road.

"It's not just produced – they had to build it with results and performance."
