Robbie Henshaw, rugby star from Leinster and Ireland, has prepared for a different team photo after joining her family for a special collaboration with traditional music star Sharon Shannon.

The center, 25 years old and originally from Athlone, comes from a family rooted in the traditional Irish heritage of music and has partnered with Shannon to record an album, The Secret Sessions, for the benefit of South Westmeath Hospice.

The Hospice provides services and support to patients and families in the Westmeath and Roscommon areas.

"Music has been a very important part of my life since I was young," said Henshaw.

"Sharon Shannon was a musician I've always admired and it's really special to have the chance to play music with her on this album."

Sharon knew Ted Quinn, who had played in a band with Billy Henshaw, Robbie's grandfather.

When his wife, Ann, pbaded away a few years ago, he and the Henshaw family wanted to create a CD to raise money for the hospice that Ann took care of during his illness.

The album was recorded in a day at Bressie's Camden Studios in Dublin and will be available on iTunes and in the country's record stores.

Speaking of her involvement in the album, Shannon said, "Ted Quinn and his family have been my friends for many years.

"Ted invited me to a session in a charming country pub called The Three Jolly Pigeons outside of Athlone at the beginning of last year." This was my first encounter with the Henshaw family.

"It was an excellent music session and seeing the whole family involved reminded me to grow up with my own family in a similar musical environment.

"I was delighted to be able to offer help.We repeated several times this summer during periods of interruption of my tours and rest periods for Robbie between his engagements for Leinster and the # 39; Ireland.

"We finally recorded the whole album in one day in the Bressie studio in Dublin, the Henshaw are all great musicians and it was a privilege to participate in such a good and fun project for such a worthy cause."

The secret sessions will be available from this Saturday.
