Kilkenny was beaten by storm Diana this morning. BSE networks said Kilkenny was one of the most affected counties.

Storm Diana struck the south and south-west coasts of Ireland early this morning and continues to head north, causing damage to the electrical infrastructure.

About 19,000 households, farms and businesses are without electricity all over the country this afternoon. The most affected counties include Cork, Kerry, Tipperary, Carlow and Kilkenny.

With the storm that has calmed down, ESB Networks' teams are now deployed and are working to restore supply in southern areas where it is safe to do so. The damage is mainly due to fallen trees on the airlines following the strong winds badociated with the arrival of the storm during the night.

Around 11 am this morning, about 40,000 homes, farms and businesses peaked without electricity.

BSE expects the vast majority of the 19,000 homes, farms and businesses currently without electricity to have their supply restored by tonight. ESB Networks excuses for any inconvenience caused.

An important public safety message from ESB Networks

Storm Diana damaged our networks at about 200 different locations, which means that the hanging and falling lines are badly damaged throughout the country. Farmers and landowners are particularly urged to be vigilant because fallen trees or branches may have fallen on the wires or leaned against them. Please do not approach or touch the wires, trees or branches as they are extremely dangerous. Report immediately to 1850 372 999.

Real-time information on power outages and restoration times is available at: www. powercheck.fr with additional information available here.
