Reading director Paul Clement thinks the Royals were on the same level as Leeds United and they insisted they win a win at the end of the night on Tuesday in the championship, while the Whites have lost 1-0.
The Whites moved into second place with a dramatic win over visitors to Reading at Elland Road after Bailey Peabad-Farrell stopped Marc McNulty from coming back in the 89th minute.
Marcelo Bielsa's men were forced to work harder than expected by a determined Reading team that almost saved a point from their confrontation in West Yorkshire.
However, Peabad-Farrell's excellence meant the Royals had nothing to show for their hard work throughout the match, with Stuart Dallas's second half strike having proved the difference.
Clement, who was happy with everything except the result on Tuesday, said Reading had the same level of control as Leeds and hung on for a win at the end.
The Head of Reading also added that anyone watching the game without any idea of the ranking would not have been able to tell who was second and who was fighting against relegation.

"Both groups of players were dead at the end, they gave everything.
"I saw Leeds, a team now second in the championship, hanging in the end.
"We were the team that was moving forward and creating opportunities.
"It's so a strange feeling.
"As a professional, you want to win games and points, but this may be one of the best games we have played this season."
Reading continues to occupy 20th place in the points standings with all players from Millwall, who have one game less, Hull City and Bolton Wanderers below.
