A Cork pub has been part of a list of the best bars in the world that "do things differently."
The list, developed by the Press Association in London, lists the Hi-B bar, located at 108 Oliver Plunkett Street in Cork, number 1 on its global list of bars that "do not match any mold or stereotype and are easily held ". out of the rest.
They write:
"A small establishment with a long list of beers and a 1920s lounge atmosphere, Cork's Hi-B is a decidedly strange place.
"Toilet furniture looks like a sewer, an audio system made up exclusively of vinyl records and a tyrannical owner known to roam the premises in pajamas.
"But the reputation of the pub is primarily based on one thing: under penalty of expulsion, cell phones are prohibited.
"It could have been one of two ways: a nascent reputation as a popular independent pub with a cool gadget, or an immediate bankruptcy." Fortune, it seems, favors the brave, and Hi-B is now a flourishing place with a regular, and fiercely loyal clientele. "
This place is really a hidden gem. So what are you waiting for?
Take a trip to the real capital of Ireland to see this Cork institution by yourself. But remember, no phones.
