Liverpool would be the first club to formally bid for Bruno Fernandes, but the fees claimed are significantly lower than those of the Sporting CP evaluation.
The Reds have been among the many players touting an interest in Portuguese Fernandes midfielder this summer, alongside Tottenham, Man United and Inter Milan.
A move would make sense in many ways, giving Jurgen Klopp an additional presence in the final third, scoring 32 goals in 53 games last season, with 18 badists.
It remains to be seen whether the reports are authentic, but in line with the previous Portuguese tabloid Correio de Manha claim Liverpool has made an offer of € 45 million for Fernandes.
This translates to £ 40.1 million and is the only "official offer" on any side to date, it is argued.
Given the age of Fernandes, his remarkable campaign in 2018/2019, his international status of 12 selections and the wide range of clubs that circulate in the area, this would represent a right to bargain.
Liverpool paid the same for Fabinho last summer, while Naby Keita, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson all signed for more in 2018.
This could present the claimed transaction as too good to be true, and this could even be the case on the basis of previous reports of the same publication.
June 9 Correio de Manha underlined the interest of the Reds as a game changer in the Fernandes signing race, the Spurs being considered the "main players" before any approach from Klopp.
However, they also add that "anyone who wants to guarantee the Portuguese international will have to submit a proposal of about 70 million euros to Sporting", describing this as "an unalterable demand".
If this valuation of £ 62.4 million is, as suggested, unalterable, an offer of more than £ 20 million lower would surely be misguided.
Although Michael Edwards has, of course, done great business during the recent transfer periods.
It is unclear whether it is Liverpool, but the name of the club could also be used to increase the price asked by Fernandes.
Apparently the same goes for Lille winger Nicolas Pepe, information reported by the Merseyside press denying any interest in the Ivorian despite strong claims from France.
