The immediate future of Liverpool in the Champions League has nothing to envy to Napoli next month, after a 2-1 defeat against Paris St Germain in France.

Jurgen Klopp's team must beat more than one Serie A goal to ensure its progression to the round of 16 after a fourth consecutive loss to the outside of the Champions League. It's the first time she's losing all three games on the outside.

Juan Bernat and Neymar, whose 31st goal of the competition allowed him to overtake Kaka as the best Brazilian, gave the hosts an advantage before James Milner's penalty kick gave hope.

Despite an improved performance in the second period, Liverpool did not find equalizer, which allowed him to do everything he could do in a busy opportunity in two weeks.

Having mastered the PSG at Anfield, they hope to do the same to the Italians, but there was no way to overthrow their French opponents in their own backyard.

Marco Verratti had been injured at the previous meeting, but he had begun to score his mark, literally at one point, causing an ugly defeat against Joe Gomez, which should have resulted in a red card.

The Italian midfielder, rebadured by Marquinhos who was holding the ground behind him, quickly pulled the strings with a quick shot of Kylian Mbappe deflected off and an Angel Di Maria balloon lagging behind Alisson Becker.

In September, Liverpool had overwhelmed his opponents in midfield, but the situation was completely different in the French capital: PSG held all the cards.

With Neymar playing in the back left of a four midfielder, exciting and infuriating as well as his quality, Liverpool was in shock and the pressure was announced in the 14th minute.

An unusual error by Virgil Van Dijk allowed Mbappe to come back half-way to the Dutch defender, who opened the scoring to deceive a right-footed shot between Joe Gomez and Jordan Henderson, while keeping the defender's deflected ball.

Salah was trying to score a wide shot that was well worth it for the visitors, for whom Gomez was struggling to keep up with the challenge thrown by a thoughtless Verratti challenge, then reserved, after losing possession of Neymar and then removing him.

Despite all his flying exploits, Neymar can turn it on in no time and, after accumulating the ball in his own camp, he got rid of fellow Roberto Firmino and exchanged pbades with Mbappe before to free his teammate pacy left.

The close shot of Edinson Cavani from the resulting center was blocked by Alisson but Neymar converted the rebound.

A quick counterattack. Liverpool had received a dose of his own medicine.

But at half-time, Mane stole Marquinhos, who was commanding until then, and was shot just inside the penalty area by Di Maria.

The Polish referee Szymon Marciniak first gave a corner, but after probably receiving the advice of his colleague behind the goal, he changed his mind and awarded a penalty that Milner sent for a cacophony of whistles and jeers.

Liverpool started the second period with much more fighting before resuming the match at PSG, and boss Thomas Tuchel was sufficiently worried to replace midfielder Di Maria by defender Dani Alves and Cavani by Eric Choupo-Moting, less talented but more energetic.

But despite all their pressure, they could not separate their opponents, who used all the tricks of the game to take the time to play, and it is the hosts who had the best chances to save Alisson head, that of Marquinos.

That's not what Klopp would have wanted to be at the top of Group C mid-term, but another Anfield electric night is waiting for us.
