Taoiseach told Dáil that it would request a report on comparisons of resources and results for child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) in every region of the country.
Leo Varadkar answered questions from Pearse Doherty, finance critic for Sinn Féin, who described as scandalous Barnards report of charity for children that shows that more than 37,000 people are waiting for treatment for their mental health, their disability, their language and their language.
The report notes that some children have not yet received an initial badessment and that 78% of people with disabilities or suspected invalidity are late.
He also revealed that thousands of kids were waiting for badessments of their mental health, and many were waiting more than a year.
The HSE figures show that there were 2,403 children waiting for an appointment for CAMHS by the end of August this year.
In response to MP Doherty, the Taoiseach said 10,000 people were working for CAMHS and 1,500 new positions had been filled.
Mr Varadkar acknowledged that it was difficult to recruit and retain staff, but said that many other countries were experiencing the same shortages.
He added that waiting lists for CAMHS appointments also vary from country to country, although the same resources are available for each region.
He added that it was "not acceptable" that children wait for long periods.
