Manchester United has activated its option to extend David de Gea's contract for another year, reports reported.
The Spanish contract was due to expire at the end of the season, but the Reds have opted to exercise their option, which will keep it at the club until the summer of 2020.
Both BBC and Sky sports reported the extension and acknowledged that discussions would continue on a new long-term agreement at Old Trafford.
Before the extension clause is triggered, From Gea could have spoken to the clubs as of January 1, but United has now given more time to discuss the future of the 28-year-old.
Jose Mourinho recently urged the US hierarchy to bind De Gea to new conditions as he is "the best goalkeeper in the world".
"He is the best goalkeeper in the world and if we want to be a big winning club, you need the best goalkeeper in the world," Mourinho I said.
"You also need other top players [in their position] in the world, in this case, we have only the best goalkeeper in the world. "
De Gea is now part of the Red Devils since 2011, when he signed for Atlantico Madrid, on the La Liga side, for £ 17m.
